10. Breathe Again

There was no sound to be heard in the cave in those last moments. Gwynis watched from beneath heavy-lidded eyes as her friend took the thief's sword in his abdomen. A sword meant for her.

She could see his eyes as he crumpled. She could see the blood dribble from the corner of his mouth. She could see his body tremble with the pain. But she couldn't hear.

She saw his mouth open to yell something. He gurgled and coughed as he yelled, but she couldn't hear it. She couldn't hear the last words of her dear, beloved companion. She couldn't hear him. She felt Albangrek latch his hands around her, dragging her through the pool of warm, soaking blood to get her out of the cave.

She screamed something; she screamed as loud and hard as she could, but she heard nothing. Nothing until she started breathing again outside of the cave... far, far away from Frederick.

Dang, these are all such downers. I'm sorry. XD It must be the music I'm listening to. (By the way, I wrote this one to Lux Aurumque and Kiss the Rain, two of the songs on my blogger playlist. They don't really fit this scene, but somehow in my mind they do.)
Next up is a lovely childhood memory. Thanks for reading!
